Mount Kigali University Hosts E-Indangamuntu Photo Registration for Students

Students at Mount Kigali University gathered in large numbers today as officials carried out the process of taking photographs for the new E‑Indangamuntu, an important step in Rwanda’s transition to digital identification.

The activity took place on campus during the day, where students lined up patiently to have their photographs taken for the electronic national identity card commonly known as the E-Indangamuntu. The process is part of Rwanda’s ongoing effort to modernize identification systems and improve access to digital services.

Officials set up temporary stations where students were called one by one to confirm their details before their photos were taken. Many students expressed excitement about receiving the new digital identity card, which is expected to make services such as banking, health care, and government registration easier.

Some students said the exercise also helped them understand the importance of having accurate national identification records.

Jean De Dieu Sugira, a student who participated in the process, said the activity was a positive step for young people.

“This exercise is very important for us as students because the E-Indangamuntu will help us access many services easily. I am happy that the officials came to our university so we can complete the process without traveling far,” he explained.

Other students also shared similar views, noting that the exercise saved them time and made the process convenient.

Sonia Iradukunda, another student present during the registration, said the initiative shows how E-indangamuntu is more important.

“It is easy to keep it compared to physical ID, and we are happy technology which is rising in Rwanda” she said.

The exercise attracted many participants throughout the day, with students arriving between lectures to complete the process. University staff assisted in organizing the lines to ensure the activity moved smoothly.

The introduction of the E-Indangamuntu is part of Rwanda’s broader digital transformation program aimed at improving efficiency in public services and strengthening identification systems across the country.

For many students at Mount Kigali University, today’s activity was not just about taking a photo, it was a small but meaningful step toward participating in Rwanda’s growing digital future.
