Beyond the Deal: The Complex Impact of Agents on Rwandan Footballers' Careers

Rwanda transfer market window is set to close on Sunday, 31st/August/2025. Clubs has signed different players and coaches to increase and stability of there squad.


During transfer market, football scouts/agents have big tasks to find teams for their players and to deal with different clubs so as they can convince that there players are the best over others.


What is the impact of football agents to Rwandan ballers? Are they helpful or not?


“There are no football agents in Rwanda, they are like real estate agents, If they don’t find money from you, you are lost.” Said by Kwizera Jean Luck, former Gasogi united player. “If it comes to the international club, you are lucky, at this time he/she becomes agent for you to get there and feel like you are home.” He added.


SHYAKA Philpert who currently signed for As Muhanga shared how things is going on about the impact of Football agents, “There are helpful a lot when a player gets an offer from abroad.” But when it becomes to local transfer, they help you to make conversation with the club leaders, and it doesn’t make something big because club leaders already knows you.”


“There are some agents who are helpful enough, who cares about you in daily life of your football career, what they put first is to find big achievements for you.” Said by NIYONZIMA Karambizi, goalkeeper in for University of Rwanda football club which is currently playing second division. “But there is also other football agents who looks like there are helping you but the truth behind there are not.” He added.


There are some examples of football agents in Rwanda, like Biganiro Antha well known as “Munda y’isi” a former Radio/TV10 journalist and also there Ishimwe Ricard well known as “Umutasi” a sports journalist at SK FM. Gakumba well known “Super manager” is also another name in football agents here in Rwanda.


Different Rwandan players are having the problem of people who can give them advice so as they can keep shine and reach at high level. It’s a big task to Rwanda FA to put also in energy in training football agents of how they can become more professionals.

  By Roger Uwineza Students at Mount Kigali University gathered in large numbers today as officials carried out the process of taking photographs for the new E‑Indangamuntu, an important step in Rwanda’s transition to digital identification.   The activity took place on campus during the day, where students lined up patiently to have their photographs taken for the electronic national identity card commonly known as the E-Indangamuntu.
