Good Leadership and Investment: How Rwanda's Amavubi Can Reach the World Stage?

Story by UWINEZA Roger

The biggest achievement of Rwanda came in 2004 when they qualified for their first and only Africa Cup of Nations finals. Another proud moment was winning the CECAFA Cup in 1999. After beating Uganda 1-0, tournament held in Rwanda.

Can Rwanda National team achieve another big moments?

Every Rwandan baller’s dreams is to wear the jersey of Rwanda because it is a great honor for them. But not all can wear it, but those who get chances to wear it, how do they represent it? What does Rwanda football Association (FERWAFA) do in order to keep the pride of that jersey? And what is the vision that jersey?

Different people shared the ideas on how Amavubi can Reach the World stage.

“It’s impossible” Said by Pedro Valentin, Student at INES Ruhengeri in school of laws “because of bad preparations and leadership in FA.” He explained.

Jean Claude Hagenimana, student at Mount Kigali University in school of mass media, shared his opinion on this, “Whatever can be done without abolishing the corruption, that is life in our football can't yield results. Our country is on the right tracks but apart from the sports sector especially football.”

Izere Antoine de Padoue: “I believe all the things are mentally based or implanted, and it all goes with the level of education, economy and life as a whole. The development of countries affects all sectors of society.”

Sports journalist at The Newtimes, Dylan Nziza Mugenga shared his idea on this, “FERWAFA always seek answers through national team coaches despite they aren’t the one  playing on the  field. I think there is a lot of potential young talents , that are missing chance to play their dream. Also build our foundation from grassroots to determine the national team’s future.”

“Also FERWAFA should start investing in sending young players abroad into those well known academy, they can start from this club that are in partnership with RDB (Arsenal, Atletico de Madrid, Bayern Munich and PSG).” He added.

Amavubi is now on 127th Fifa world ranking.

The journey for Amavubi is like building a strong bridge. It needs a solid foundation in youth development, strong pillars in the local league, and a clear path through consistent planning.  With patience, investment, and a clear plan, Rwanda can cross that bridge and take its place on football’s biggest stages.

As all Rwandans let us put together to rise talents so as we will enjoy together the victories.
