Sports, Opinion: Are Rwanda's Retired Footballers Giving Back or Fading Away?

 Story by UWINEZA Roger

Rwandan ballers are getting retired from playing football due to years of old, injuries and other different reasons.

You can ask yourself, what do they help youngsters who want to become legends as they are?

Football is a game which is learnt from young age, and it requires to work hard so as you can be successful.

Rwandan ballers retired from football, did different miracles in football of Rwanda. In 2004, Rwanda got their first ever qualification for AFCON. At that time national team Amavubi was having different best players like all time top score Jimmy Gatete.

In 2016, Rwanda hosted CHAN and different talents shows up themselves, example of one of the players was Sugira Erneste.

But what they did in their time on the pitch, are they proud to teach it to rising ballers?

Different people shared there ideas on this. “They are helping us nothing because they are not given respect that they deserve.” Said Keddy.

Arnold NIYIGENA, “They became  proverbs, they hit and run. What if someone asks you what Ndoli Jean Claude and Jimmy Gatete facilitated in Rwandan football?

Manzi Cedrick has different perspective on this, “some of them are helping Rwandan ballers by becoming coaches, and creating different football academies to help young players. And examples are there, Jimmy Maurice created UMURI FOUNDATION to help rising ballers show off their talents, Jean Baptiste well know as “Miggy” and Ndayishimiye Eric, well know as “Bakame”are now coaches in Rwanda premier league.”

Football unites the world, and if ferwafa and football clubs work together with veterans, this can create a strong lock for Rwandan football.
