Sports, Opinion: The Performance of Referees in Rwandan Football

In Rwanda, different fans of clubs are claiming about referees performance but others agrees with decisions taken.

Are Rwandan referees meeting standard?


Referee is the senior on field match official responsible for enforcing the Laws of the Game during a football match.


Today’s football requires high quality professionals, both players, coaches and referees, this ensures that they know what they are doing.


It’s been longtime people claiming about officiating, but not only fans, also coaches, players and sometimes club’s presidents have seen many times in media showing that there is problems in referring.


Different people shared there perspective on this. “They are poor, they don’t have enough money, that why sometimes do something which looks like a favor to one club than another one, sometimes they bet for one club in order to earn money, this is what is causing them to loose standard.” Said MUKRISTO Jean De La Paix.


MUSHIMIRE Emmy Gentil shared also his look on this, “They are performing their work unprofessional, it seems like they need high quality trainings so as they can learn how to officiate professionally.”


This is different in eyes of IRADUKUNDA Meshack, “They are doing a great job, what is causing dramas is how people they  are taking decisions taken by referees.”


Shema Fabrice who is willing to become FERWAFA president, has said that, there going start paying some referees salaries month. 


We have both men and women referees, as shortlisted: Uwikunda Samuel, Ishimwe Jean Claude, Twagirumukiza Abdoul karim, Rurisa Patience Fidele, and Ruzindana Nsoro, Mukansanga Salima Rhadia and Umutoni Aline,  Umutesi Alice, Murangwa Usenga Sandrine, Mukayiranga Regine and Akimana Juliette.

Mount Kigali University Hosts E-Indangamuntu Photo Registration for Students

  By Roger Uwineza Students at Mount Kigali University gathered in large numbers today as officials carried out the process of taking photographs for the new E‑Indangamuntu, an important step in Rwanda’s transition to digital identification.   The activity took place on campus during the day, where students lined up patiently to have their photographs taken for the electronic national identity card commonly known as the E-Indangamuntu. The process is part of Rwanda’s ongoing effort to modernize identification systems and improve access to digital services.   Officials set up temporary stations where students were called one by one to confirm their details before their photos were taken.
